Kim Townsend was one of the original instructors for Creative Dance Kids. Though she no longer teaches for us, she is still involved with CDK through her assistant director duties and her passion for dance.
1: Where are you from?
I was born in Seoul, South Korea, but grew up in Littleton, CO.
2: How old were you when you took your first dance class?
I was 10 years old. I took it to help me train for figure skating.
3: What made you decide to become a dance teacher?
I love working with kids and creating choreography.
4: What did you like most about teaching with Creative Dance Kids?
I loved doing school performances and watching kids (many who would not have any other opportunity to perform like that), get so excited and amped up. They truly feel like stars for one day!
5: Do you have any professional performances coming up? If so, with who? When and where will the show be?
Yes, I'll be performing in Frequent Flyers Productions Ratcracker. Ratcracker is an aerial dance show that takes the Nutcracker and flips it upside down, literally! The show runs December 9-11 & 16-18 at the Dairy Center for Performing Arts in Boulder, CO.
6: What is your favorite dance move/trick to teach?
Anything kind of funky so the dancers can put their own attitude into it. I also like teaching the head isolation circles as the "Oh no you didn't" isolation, it always makes the kids giggle which I love!
