1:  Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Hamilton, MT.  I moved to Denver this year from Honolulu where I spent the last 9 years.

2:  How old were you when you took your first dance class?  What style of dance was it?
I started a little later than usual, I think it was around 4th grade.  I started taking ballet and fell in love immediately!

3:  What made you decide to become a dance teacher?
I do not know if it was so much my decision. :) A friend of mine asked me to sub her class a couple of years ago and I was really nervous, but I loved every minute of it.  When she had to resign unexpectedly I took over her classes.  I've been teaching for three years now and I can't imagine how I went without it!  I think everyone should have children in their lives. They remind us of how fun and beautiful life can be.

4:  What do you like most about teaching with Creative Dance Kids?
I really love that CDK takes dance into the schools.  Teaching dancers at a studio means you are teaching kids that have already had some exposure to dance and have chosen to make it a part of their lives.  Going into the schools gives you a chance to share dance with kids that probably are not in a studio.  Also, it exposes others: teachers, parents, other students, and school staff to all the benefits of dance.  In so many cultures dance is an everyday part of everyone's lives, and I feel it should be in ours.  CDK is making an impact by bringing all the positivity that dance creates out into the public.  Being a part of that makes me feel like I am doing some good each day.

5:  Do you have any professional performances coming up?  If so, with who?  When and where will the show be?
My students from Axis of Movement will be performing a Christmas Gala in Fredrick on Dec. 10th.   Also, look for them at competition!

6:  What is your favorite dance move/trick to teach and why?
I love to teach Jazz walks and beginning pointe.  Jazz walks because it is all about expression.  It is a really fun and easy way to introduce musicality, personal style, and self-expression. Also, I love to teach beginning pointe because it is such a special time in a ballerina's career.  I appreciate the desire and dedication it takes to make it to that point and the determination and strength it takes to go forward.

Kim Townsend was one of the original instructors for Creative Dance Kids.  Though she no longer teaches for us, she is still involved with CDK through her assistant director duties and her passion for dance.

1:  Where are you from?
I was born in Seoul, South Korea, but grew up in Littleton, CO.

2:  How old were you when you took your first dance class?
I was 10 years old.  I took it to help me train for figure skating.

3:  What made you decide to become a dance teacher?
I love working with kids and creating choreography.

4:  What did you like most about teaching with Creative Dance Kids?
I loved doing school performances and watching kids (many who would not have any other opportunity to perform like that), get so excited and amped up. They truly feel like stars for one day!

5:  Do you have any professional performances coming up?  If so, with who?  When and where will the show be?
Yes, I'll be performing in Frequent Flyers Productions Ratcracker.  Ratcracker is an aerial dance show that takes the Nutcracker and flips it upside down, literally! The show runs December 9-11 & 16-18 at the Dairy Center for Performing Arts in Boulder, CO.

6:  What is your favorite dance move/trick to teach?
Anything kind of funky so the dancers can put their own attitude into it. I also like teaching the head isolation circles as the "Oh no you didn't" isolation, it always makes the kids giggle which I love!

1:  Where are you from? Mountain town, Durango, CO.

2:  How old were you when you took your first dance class?
I was 9 years old. My first class was Ballet/Tap which was held at a
big warehouse where they use to play bingo.

3:  What made you decide to become a dance teacher?
I decided to become a dance teacher because I had such a great teacher
when I was little who pushed me and inspired me to be the dancer I am
today. I just love sharing my love for dance to other people and it's
exciting and really satisfying to watch kids grow as dancers! Happy
faces make me happy!

4:  What do you like most about teaching with Creative Dance Kids?
It's a new experience going into schools and teaching in different
environments. I enjoy that the kids I teach are new and eager to learn
and it's awesome to be a part of after school activities!

5:  Do you have any professional performances coming up?  If so, with
who?  When and where will the show be? Yes! I am a company dancer with
Ballet Ariel and we have "The Sorcerers Apprentice" and other works
coming on Nov 5th and 6th!! Come and check it out!

6:  What is your favorite dance move/trick to teach?
I love playing "free dance" because it's really fun to watch the
student's individuality in their dancing and witness how they explore
the movement!

Where are you from? I grew up in Winslow, Maine, and have lived in Saratoga Springs, NY; Tampa, FL; Portland, Me; and now Boulder, Co.

How old were you when you took your first dance class? I was seven years old, and I took ballet and acrobats at Laurie's School of Dance.

What made you decide to become a dance teacher? I think from the very first dance class I ever took, I just knew it was what I was going to do. It's the most rewarding, fulfilling experience I can imagine, and I've always loved the limitless possibilities that lie within a dance classroom.

What do you like most about teaching with Creative Dance Kids? My kids! When people ask me if I have kids, I say, "Yes, about 40 of them, but only for an hour a week."

Do you have any professional performances coming up?  If so, with who?  When and where will the show be? Not as of now.

What is your favorite dance move/trick to teach? My favorite part of dance class is improvising-- free dancing, or as I like to call it "groove time." It's the time where everyone gets to be the dancer, the teacher, and the audience. I love to see what my kids can come up with off the cuff, and the creativity and innovation they
show when improvising never cease to amaze me.
